Over the weekend, we observed the first anniversary of the death of Tim Russert.
From the political perspective, things will likely never be the same. Depsite the best, and great, efforts of Olbermann, Mathews, Schutlz, Bennett, and Samuels, that mixture of talent, insight, intelligence, and sense of humor and history has not been replicated.
Thom Hartmann is the closest to Tim in all respects, but he is unlikely to be given the chance to jump to the TV arena.
From the personal perspective, the loss of a son so bonded to his father and a father so bonded to his son is just heart-breaking, and remains as painful to me now as it was a year ago.
From Tim's perspective, it was a life lost just a few years too early. He would have begged for just a couple more years, to see a half-black man elected POTUS, to see what changes he was going to make in the world, to analyze the steps and missteps, and to be just astounded just this weekend that an Israeli Prime Minister has finally endoresed a Palestinian State.
Just a few more years...
The man who single-handedly restored Meet The Press to its former self, and was named to Time's 100 Most Influential People in The World, deserved that- and so did Luke, Maureen and the world.
