Movie Progress?

x
It is often said that the reason people fear gays and lesbians is not biblical, but more "stranger" in nature.

That is to say that most people don't realize that they actually know people who are gay or lesbian.

Maybe more movies are the partial solution. It won't be easy. I own both "Milk" & "Brokeback Mountain". I watched them once, and, so far, I cannot watch them a second time. Too heartbreaking, too unjust, too infuriating...

But, maybe, just maybe, more gay mainstream movies are the answer.

Here are some suggestions...

Love, life, anguish & death amongst a small town group of friends, with a couple of hairdressers as the nuclei of the bunch: Steel Gaynolias

A wonderful, dramatic, artistically-filmed-in-black-and-white baseball movie about the first openly gay baseball player for the greatest baseball franchise in history: "Pride of the Yankees".

Small town Texas politics, life, love, and right-wing religious politicos with Beatle haircuts: "The Best Little Bathhouse in Texas"

The Old West, the California gold fields, lots of bawdiness, and some folks singing that shouldn't, let alone about trees and being a wandering star: "Paint Your Wagon- Pink!"

A microscopic look at how the gay movement established its roots in San Francisco, and how it evolved there: "Rear Window".

A love story about a gay naval aviator candidate, the trials and tribulations of being in school, and the factory worker he falls in love with: "An Officer and a Gentle Man"

A wonderfully artsy film about a bunch of gay poets that just cannot seem to get along at the same time: "The Wars of the Proses".

A nature movie about a gay professional dancer who lives in rural Wyoming, and is abruptly forced to take in a couple of wild animal orphans: "Prances with Wolves".

And, I am sure there are more.
