The Winters School Board has come out against busing- themselves, in this week's Youth Day Parade.
Yesterday, YD Parade Chairman Mike Sebastian received word that the WJUSD Board was not going to be in the YD parade. Usually, they ride together in a school bus, along with teachers and students.
I wonder what's up? Seems like odd timing.
Of course, the Brown Act allows their attendance as a group at public and social events- even in the same bus in a Parade!
If their motives are pure, and they have chosen not to insert politics into Youth Day, although it has been done before- I applaud them, long and loud.
If they have withdrawn because they are feeling bruised and battered, I'm sorry that's the case- but it is mostly self-inflicted.
We know the Board describes those in the Community who have concerns over the non-renewal of George Griffin's contract and/or the subsequent actions of the School Board as a "minority" or a "disgruntled few".
If that's the case, one would think that the Board would leap at the chance to ride together in public, in a Parade, to give the masses, the apparently-silent majority, the opportunity to show their support, and wave and cheer them on as they go by.
I guess not.
